Insomnia is a very common and troublesome disease widespread in the world due to a lot of reasons. It is a condition where you're unable to sleep or remain asleep for a long period, you feel grumpy the whole day, have trouble concentrating, feel sleepy during the whole day, have short memory, and are fatigued too. This condition can be temporary or Permanent or come and go depending upon the person who is affected by it.

Nowadays, we see a lot of people, especially youth, suffering from insomnia. Insomnia sucks because sleep is a very vital part of our life and a necessity to lead a healthy life. Lack of sleep causes frustration, stress, tiredness, and lack of energy and stamina.

If you're troubled by insomnia, and you're not sure what causes insomnia, here are some reasons:

Jet lags, due to frequent traveling and shifting, and changes in work shifts, are some primary causes of suffering from insomnia. If you're leading a sound happy life and still not getting enough sleep, another reason may also be, due to the location where you're residing.


A very busy street where there is a lot of traffic you'll face a lot of problems sleeping, or excess light during sleep can also cause insomnia. Another reason why you can be affected by insomnia can be the climatic conditions where you're living. Extreme hot or cold temperatures may prevent you from falling asleep.

Insomnia can also occur as a side effect of taking medications for allergies, depression, colds, high blood pressure, and asthma. Insomnia sucks! You'll be cured of the disease you were suffering from only to get affected by a new disease.

If you're suffering from insomnia, you must go and visit a doctor to seek professional help. In case of acute insomnia, you can be prescribed sleeping pills for a short period of time, but don't overuse these pills, as the effectiveness declines with time. 


For chronic insomnia, you may have to work on the areas and the root causes of why you have insomnia in the first place. Solving the problems of the reasons for Insomnia can help a lot in curing the disease. Another activity that can help you cure insomnia is getting therapy. Therapy will help you realize which area you should work on. 


Prevent insomnia

Insomnia sucks in a lot of ways but you surely can prevent insomnia. Here is how:


  1. Have a fixed routine

By having a fixed routine you'll avoid being an insomniac. Get up early at the same time every day and go to sleep at the same time every night. Try getting at least 6-7 hours of sleep daily. Avoid taking naps as they will make you less sleepy at night. 


  1. No phones before sleeping

Avoid using electronic devices like phones and laptops before going to sleep, as they will make you really addicted and the light radiated may result in your sleeplessness. 


  1. Regular exercising

Regular exercising can also help you fall asleep 4-5 hours before your sleep at least. 


  1. Control your eating habits

Another reason why insomnia sucks is because you can't even have your favorite foods whenever you want. A heavy meal late in the day may cause you to not fall asleep. Try eating a light snack before falling asleep. 


  1. Avoid intake of caffeine, alcohol

Too much coffee, caffeine, and alcohol may prevent you from falling asleep or getting enough sleep and are also injurious to your health in other ways. Avoid intake of these substances. 


6. Reading books, listening to music, bathing 

All these activities may also help you fall asleep faster by making you feel drowsy. 



Conclusion

Every problem has a cure thanks to modern advanced technology, but as we all know prevention is better than cure. Following a good lifestyle, and talking out your feelings to your close ones is the best way to be healthy mentally, and regular exercises, good eating habits, and maintaining a routine is the best way to be healthy physically.


But even after all these precautions, sometimes we have really low points in our lives and have so much trouble falling asleep. Insomnia sucks as it doesn't allow you to function normally, by keeping you in an extremely irritable mood the whole day, feeling tired throughout the day, but it is not totally incurable. Sleep is as important for good health as food, and water.
